Crisis Leadership: Managing Behavioral Consequences of Terrorism

Join Eagle Rock Alliance at the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit 2010 in Washington, D.C., June 21-23.  Eagle Rock will be conducting and facilitating a special Crisis Leadership workshop/table top exercise on June 22 (09:15 AM-11:45 AM) that you won’t want to miss.

Just how well do your colleagues perform under pressure?  Are crisis-management skills up to par?  Would a real-life workplace disaster find some of your executives clear-thinking and others rattled by misinformation and chaos? Would your BCM plans have sufficient protocols for contacting clients and external contacts ASAP?  What about the “work from home” recovery strategy via IP phone service? Would re-located staff succeed or fail in their first few attempts to reestablish communications at their new call centers? Attendees will discover the answers to these questions and more in our fast-paced Crisis Leadership workshop, where they will test their mettle as employees of a fictitious company designed specifically for this exercise.

Last year’s 2 hour Gartner Summit workshop proved to be a highly interactive learning experience which garnered an enthusiastic response.  Some participants saw it as “an eye-opening training tool that was well-planned and facilitated.”  Others described it as a “humbling exercise” that would definitely motivate them to revisit their BCM plans just as soon as they returned to the office.

This year’s session is likewise designed to be an exciting and enjoyable learning experience.  Learn about dealing with behavioral and emotional response to a crisis, including the concept of behavioral mapping during various phases of a crisis; what an organization can do before and during a crisis to alleviate individual and organizational impacts; and the value of Corporate Security being visible and responsive during a crisis. You will learn specifics of a terrorist scenario as they relate to crisis management and dealing with behavioral issues.

It’s a learn-as-you-go session.  Each escalation of the scenario is preceded by additional information about the scenario subject matter and information about mitigating adverse behaviors and emotional response.  Videos and expert perspectives will be presented along with continuous opportunities for team interaction, illustrating how decisions by Security, Facilities, Executives, and affected Business Units are critical to successful outcomes, including long-range Security and Business Continuity issues.

Conducting the session will be Marv Wainschel of Eagle Rock with the assistance of behavioral subject matter expert, Steve Crimando.  Moderator is Gartner’s Roberta Witty.  Profiles are available online at the Gartner Summit site.

Pre-registration is required, and Gartner is predicting that this session will be hugely popular based upon last year’s response and initial sign-ups.  Don’t get left out.  Check out the conference at http://www.gartner.com/technology/summits/na/security and click on “Agenda” and “Workshops – Learn More”.  We hope to see you there!
